From Food Safety News: the April 2018 romaine lettuce E. coli outbreak has sickened 200 people in the US — five of whom have died, and nearly 100 had to be hospitalized. Unfortunately, the Arizona farm traced to the outbreak finished harvesting their crop and plowed the field before investigators could do testing.
FDA leaders told the press that “incomplete and incompatible shipping and receiving records” slowed the traceback process. Perfect application for a track & trace capability.
